Make your own historic climb of the iconic Matterhorn and summit three grand 4,000-meter peaks along the way on our six-day trip in the bucolic Valaisian Alps.
Day 1: Climb Breithorn, 4164 m.
The easiest 4,000-meter peak in the Alps is the perfect glacier climb to start your acclimatization. And it’s a beautiful introduction to the Valaisian Alps, with staggering views of your nearby objective, the Matterhorn.
Day 2: Climb Rifflehorn, 2927.5 m.
This craggy peak is the perfect training ground for moving efficiently on rock in mountaineering boots.
Day 3: Climb Pollux, 4092 m.
An interesting and slightly longer peak climb that mixes elements of rock climbing with striking snow arĂȘte to the summit.
Day 4: Climb Castor, 4223 m. Pollux’s twin.
A longer snow climb that is good for acclimatization, endurance and views of the Monte Rosa and beyond.
Day 5: Start the big climb
Approach the Hornli Hutte, 3260 m.
Day 6: Summit the Matterhorn!
We’ll use all of our rock and snow techniques on this adventure. Climb plenty of fourth- and easy fifth-class rock to snow that requires cramponing near the summit. Return to Zermatt that afternoon.
